Italian Islands (European Parliament constituency) : ウィキペディア英語版 | Italian Islands (European Parliament constituency)
In European elections, Italian Islands is a constituency of the European Parliament. It consists of the regions of Sardinia and Sicily. As the other Italian constituencies, it has only a procedural goal to choose the elected MEPs inside party lists, the distribution of seats between different parties being calculated at national level (called ''Collegio Unico Nazionale'', National Single Constituency). ==Critics of the European Parliament's electoral system==
Due to the population difference between the island elected MEPs of this constituency usually come from Sicily exclusively, leaving Sardinia without representatives. This was the case for this constituency from 2004 to 2009. Critics of the European Parliament's electoral system have compared this constituency with Malta, an island with less than ten percent of the population of this polity that has an equal number of MEPs.
